Celebrating Community Placemaking
Placemaking is "the art and science of developing public spaces that attract people, build community by bringing people together, and create local identity." Project for Public Spaces
As communities develop and grow, an important and often overlooked element is the public realm. These projects are rooted in supporting private development with the progression of public placemaking. There is a symbiotic relationship between these two elements that give richness to the built environment. One major goal of this project in Mequon-Thiensville is to announce arrival and define the start of a district. But, more importantly, it is to activate underutilized public assets – the park and riverfront. We want to create a destination, to foster interaction, and generate pride in community.
