St. Stephen Catholic Church | Oak Creek, WI

The challenge for site planning for St. Stephen was to fit extensive interior and exterior program requirements onto a 14 acre site. A portion of the site was not buildable due to the presence of wetlands. The site was also adjacent to a major interstate freeway, further restricting the placement of building components.

The  building design has a contemporary architectural language that keeps with the suburban setting, while still recalling the form, materials, and details of the Parish’s existing historic church.

St. Jerome Catholic Church | Oconomowoc, WI

St. Jerome’s Parish plans included expansion into a multi-phase school and worship space.  Growing needs and a changing area made it necessary to reach out into the community and provide a larger and more efficient church and school.

The design of the church and school buildings developed from a study of the site conditions and blends with this rural setting plus the neighboring residential and institutional properties.  A natural wetland at the Southeast portion of the site and an engineered detention pond enhance onsite water retention and quality.  Ball fields for the church and school bring in families from the surrounding communities.

The 850 seat church represents Phase II of the overall master plan for the campus.

St. Luke's Lutheran Church | Waukesha, WI

GROTH Design Group partnered with St. Luke’s Congregation to renovate their place of worship. The goals of the endeavour were to enhance liturgical celebration, support and encourage the arts and music programming in the space, keep current with changing technology, and create an inspiring and fresh aesthetic.

The design for the worship space recreated the chancel to be fully flexible for a variety of liturgies and programming. The platform is accessible to patrons of all physical abilities. The chancel backdrop attains the double task of masking audio-visual technology to support the liturgy and tempering the massive scale of the space. Natural lighting in the front is decreased and filtered. Windows for increased natural light are carved into the stone walls of the nave, and seating is redesigned for flexibility, accessibility and comfort.
