Carmelite Ministry Home

Wauwatosa, WI

This 25,300-square-foot ministry home for the Carmelite Sisters of Divine Heart of Jesus was built to provide apartment style rooms for mentally and physically disabled women from the community.  The complex features 15 resident units which include a private bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette, and living room.  There are shared spaces for the residents which include a community dining room, living room, prayer room, 2nd-floor reflection patio, laundry facilities, and recreation space for exercising and relaxation.

A central kitchen run by the Sisters provides meals to those residents who wish to eat with the other residents.

GROTH Design Group assisted in the review of their existing Boy’s Home Dormitory to see if it would be a viable option for repurposing.

During planning it was determined a better plan for the campus would be to raze the dormitory to provide the necessary space on their tight campus to provide the new Ministry Home.
