RUSD- Red Apple School

STEaM Focused K-8 Education Spaces | Racine, WI

Red Apple School is a new K–8 STEAM-focused learning environment in Racine, Wisconsin, developed as part of Racine Unified School District’s community-approved 2020 referendum. Replacing an outdated facility, the new school consolidates early learning, elementary, and middle school students into a single, purpose-built environment serving more than 760 learners.

Designed around the concept of a "building that teaches," Red Apple School fully integrates STEAM learning into the architecture itself.

Exposed building systems, color-coded infrastructure, interactive learning elements, rooftop learning spaces, and real-time energy dashboards transform the facility into an everyday teaching tool while supporting hands-on, inquiry-based learning.

Community engagement, equity, and long-term adaptability guided the planning and design process. The school provides modern learning environments, collaborative spaces, and community-accessible amenities that support both student success and neighborhood pride. Since opening during the 2025–2026 school year, Red Apple School has exceeded enrollment projections and established a new standard for future educational facilities across the district.
