Building with Heart: Healing Spaces with Heart

Thomas (Tommy) Schneider, project architect, first felt a calling to healthcare design while his wife underwent treatment for Ewing Sarcoma. Fast forward 10 years and Tommy’s wife is in remission, and their hands and hearts are full taking care of their twins. The first chapter of parenthood threw them a curveball, as their daughter was diagnosed in utero with a severe congenital heart defect.

No stranger to patient‑level healthcare interactions, Tommy brings a design approach guided by lived experience and grounded in the full care journey. His healthcare designs strike a balance between functionality and warmth, elevating patient comfort and dignity, and thoughtfully supporting the loved ones who share every step of the journey.

Meet Tommy and hear his story in the latest edition of Building with Heart.
